Event description
Learn from three public school systems that chose to pursue LEED Platinum for multiple schools—key decisions, challenges, and successes.

About this event

LEED certification remains a popular choice for schools in all types of communities. The Center for Green Schools estimates that 10 percent of all new schools are achieving certification each year, and the great majority of these are public schools. In fact, recent research has indicated that schools in lower-wealth communities (when they’re able to be built) are actually more likely to be LEED certified. Join the Center for Green Schools to hear from three public school systems that chose to pursue LEED Platinum certification for multiple schools: Baltimore City Public Schools, State College School District, and DC Public Schools. Why did they choose to “go for Platinum,” what were the challenges, and what are they proudest of? Learn from the perspectives of sustainability consultants, architects, and school district facilities leaders.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will be able to describe the key drivers behind school system staff and leadership deciding to pursue LEED Platinum certification.
  2. Attendees will be able to explain important decision points within the process of pursuing LEED certification that can impact project schedule and cost.
  3. Attendees will be able to give examples of successful sustainability measures that were implemented in the process of achieving LEED certification.
  4. Attendees will be able to describe challenges that arise when pursuing high-level LEED certification and how those challenges relate to those encountered when pursuing a lower level of LEED certification.

This session is pending GBCI CE credit.
