Every Land Every Day: Near 1400 years ago in a land known as Karbala, world history became witness to a human tragedy. A resistant collective to a corrupt government, among whom were women and children, were given one choice: to submit. They did not bow down and as a consequence, on the tenth day of the month of Muharram, known as Ashura, they were tragically massacred and brutally taken as captives. The story of Karbala marks the confrontation of good and evil in Middle Eastern traditions and is commemorated every year in the form of rituals, prayers and artistic expressions. For the commemorators, however, the story of Karbala is not specific to a certain region, peoples or cultural traditions. Rather, the battle of good and evil as exemplified in the Ashura tragedy, transcends time and space. Hence it is widely held: Every Land is Karbala and Every Day is Ashura.

In order to foster cultural dialogue and exchange learnings, we have organized an art event showcasing major themes related to Ashura through artistic medium on Friday Oct 18th. In a two-hour show, the audience will watch artistic displays and artists perform spoken words, put on a theatre performance and deliver inspirational talks. Please note this is not a “religious” nor a missionary event. This is an art show with an intercultural focus.
