Girls in 6th, 7th and 8th are invited to join us for a two-part STEM field trip to Johns Hopkins University/Applied Physics Lab (JHU/APL) and the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute (NIH/NCI) on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018. MCPS will be closed that day. Cost: FREE - Please bring a brown bag lunch. WE ARE SEEKING TWO CHAPERONES/DRIVERS to avoid the cost of renting a bus. We do not have a sponsor for this trip. Meeting time/place: 8:00 AM, parking lot of the Silver Spring Historic Rail Road Station Museum (next to the new fire station) 8010 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. 20910. On the right side, going towards DC, just before the overpass. Return to this location between 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm. Please pick up girls no later than 5:30 pm

Morning session: Visit NIH/NCI located in Bethesda, MD. Tour NCI and meet research scientists who are making ground-breaking discoveries in the treatment and cure of cancer.

Afternoon session: Visit JHU/APL located in Laurel, MD. Explore and discover STEM applications and meet with career professionals for a close-up Q and A session.

Special FIELD TRIP participation requirement.

1- THE NAMES OF ALL ATTENDEES MUST BE SUBMITTED TO JHU BY MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2018. PLEASE REGISTER BY SUNDAY, AUGUST 26TH. Please provide a copy of a passport, birth certificate or other proof of citizenship.

2– ALL students and parents (chaperones) MUST BE UNITED STATES CITIZENS. This is a high security research facility and public access is strictly controlled. Please email a copy of a passport, birth certificate or other document proof.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Drop off and pick up girls in the parking lot of Silver Spring Historic Railroad Station museum - 8010 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910. We will not have building access.

What can I bring into the event?

Brown bag lunch. cell phones must be on vibrate mode. Rain gear if weather requires. Sweater or sweatshirt. The labs may be cold.
