Cost: Tolls plus $25/car entrance fee (free with National Parks Senior Pass)

Please note that members of the Audubon Everglades local chapter have priority on this trip.

It always fills quickly, so, if you are not already a local member, consider becoming one in order to receive this priority. Go to the following web page for membership information:

We will start the day in search of the Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow. It is a highly endangered subspecies of the seaside sparrow that is found only in the southern Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp. There are very few of them left and they are hard to find in the immensity of the Everglades but Mark knows the exact location of a number of male territories and we have a good chance of seeing/hearing them if we arrive early enough. They sing early in the morning from about 6:00 - 8:30 am (when the wind starts to pick up) so we need to meet at 6:45 at the Coe Center to have time to get to and find the birds.

Mark will share more information to help us in “Understanding the Everglades Water and Birds” as we visit several habitats within the ENP and discuss the environment and how all the pieces fit together. We will, of course, be birding all along the way. Plan for a full day in the park! We'll be doing some walking but nothing strenuous.
