Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Career Readiness Workshops!

What is a Career Readiness Workshop?

Washington STEM and Teach For America are bringing together high school students and industry professionals (volunteers) to take part in career readiness activities. Within each workshop, industry professionals (volunteers) will help lead students through three interactive sessions: Delivering an Elevator Pitch, Interview Strategies, and Resume Best Practices.

Our youth advisory committee has shared with us know that volunteers who resonate with them are generally younger professionals from diverse backgrounds with interesting jobs. We are actively recruiting volunteers from diverse industries as we want students to think of STEM broadly.

What is the role of a volunteer?

The success of the Career Readiness Workshops is connecting students to professionals in STEM-related careers. Volunteers will sit with students, facilitate small group discussions, and offer tips related to the three workshop sessions. Students will network with professionals, take part in mock interviews, and generally build their confidence and skills related to interactions with potential employers. We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to work with a group of 5 high school students. Dinner and materials will be provided for the workshop.

What is the time commitment? Is there a volunteer training?

All volunteers are required to attend a 1-hour volunteer training. Training for each workshop will be from 4:30pm-5:30pm or via a webinar one week prior to the workshop.

When and where are the workshops?

We currently have career workshops in Seattle and Tacoma Everett .

If you have any questions, please contact Jayme Shoun at jayme@washingtonstem.org or by phone at (360) 259-8636.
