This Everest day The Himalayan Trust invites you to join Himalayan Trust Ambassadors to celebrate the ascent of Mt Everest in 1953
About this event
This Everest Day is on Sunday the 29th of May and we will be celebrating the historic achievements of Sir Ed and Tenzing Norgay 69 years ago.
Celebrate Everest Day with drinks, Sherpa food, films, speeches and auctions of some special items this Everest Day!
The first ascent of Everest was a momentous achievement.
It shifted the boundaries of what was possible, and also placed New Zealand on the map for people around the globe.
Here at The Himalayan Trust, we want to celebrate this historic day as well as acknowledge the incredible leadership and inspiration that continues to this day.
Speakers on the evening include Phurenje Sherpa and Bill Nye from Adventure Books. There will also be a special recorded address from our patron Helen Clark, and our chairperson Peter Hillary.
We are also delighted to be sharing a new film with you on the night. It's a short film (14 mins) called A Schoolhouse in the Clouds. It is, in many ways an origin story of The Himalayan Trust. The film delves into the first ascent of Mt Everest and how that led to the creation of the first school in Solukhumbu.
On the night, a few special items will be available in a silent auction! Among them will be a signed and framed $5 note from Sir Edmund himself.
We really hope to see you there, so get in quick as ticket sales will be closing early next week! See less
