Our speaker for the morning lecture will be Dr. Frederick Hess, the director of Education Policy Studies and resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. He is also the author of several books including his newest, Letters to a Young Education Reformer (Harvard Education Press, 2017) along with author of the popular Education Week blog “Rick Hess Straight Up”. He has published in scholarly outlets such as American Politics Quarterly, Harvard Education Review, Social Science Quarterly, Teachers College Record, and Urban Affairs Review, and in more popular outlets such as The Atlantic, National Affairs, National Review, The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and US News & World Report. He has also edited influential volumes on many topics, including No Child Left Behind, educational entrepreneurship, education philanthropy, the Common Core, and the impact of education research.
