End Violence Against Women International (EVAWI) invites you to participate in our Virtual 5K! This is an excellent opportunity to run, walk, or roll for a good cause – with beginners and experts equally welcome. Also, if you are in law enforcement, we encourage you to participate in our Law Enforcement Virtual 5K Challenge!

EVAWI is the nation’s leading non-profit professional training organization dedicated to improving the criminal justice response to sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and other forms of gender-based violence. Your participation in this event helps support our vision of creating a world where gender-based violence is unacceptable; where perpetrators are held accountable, and where victims receive the compassion, support, and justice they deserve.

How Do I Participate?

This is an event you complete on YOUR own time, and YOUR chosen location. Start by registering at Eventbrite.com. The cost of participation is just $30 / person. Then, run, walk, or roll for 5K (3.1miles) anywhere you want, any time. The deadline for completing the 5K is December 31st, 2018.

Feel free to snap pictures of your run / walk / roll or pose with the medal we send when you register. Don’t forget to tag us on:

How Do I Join the Law Enforcement Challenge?

We particularly challenge all sworn and civilian law enforcement personnel to join our Virtual 5K, and agencies with the highest participation rates could win a free registration to our International Conference in San Diego, April 22-24, 2019.

To help level the playing field, agencies will compete in size categories:

Small (49 or fewer employees, both sworn and civilian)

Medium (50-99 employees)

Large (100 or more employees)

In other words, we are offering a total of 3 free conference scholarships for law enforcement agencies of varying sizes. For more information, please see our FAQs below.

EVAWI is a 501(c)(3) organization and your donations (minus the cost of the medal) are tax deductible. Our financial disclosures are available at www.evawintl.org.

One Size Doesn’t Fit All

To help level the playing field, you will be competing in one of three categories for small, medium, and large agencies:

Small (49 or fewer employees, both sworn and civilian)

Medium (50-99 employees)

Large (100 or more employees)

As Easy as 1, 2, … 7

Because this is a challenge, it will take a few more steps than simply registering for the Virtual 5K on this event site.

Step 1: Before everyone hurries to sign up, first pick a team organizer. Don't worry - the job is easy - we just need someone to communicate with.

Step 2: Email alison@evawintl.org to let her know your agency is participating in the challenge. You will need to provide her with the following details:

  • Name of your agency
  • Contact information for your team organizer
  • Size of your agency

Step 3: Next, head over to EventBrite to create your team. Fill out the form, paying close attention to all required fields. Your team name should simply be the name of your law enforcement agency. Once the team is created, make sure to register yourself as an individual participant.

Step 4: Then, challenge your sworn and civilian colleagues to join the team! Send out a registration link with the information provided here, and make sure participants select the option to “Join a team” when they register. They can search for your team by agency name.

Step 5: Motivate everyone to stay on track and complete the Virtual 5K! The deadline for completion is December 31, 2018.

Step 6: Once you’ve completed the challenge, email alison@evawintl.org with the total number of agency personnel who participated, and a list of their names.

Step 7: If your agency is the winner – you get to pick the scholarship recipient!

Run / Walk / Roll

Your agency might dedicate a single day for a run / walk / roll, or have everyone complete the Virtual 5 K on their own. Either way, please track agency participation.

What is the Deadline?

This challenge is open until December 31st, 2018. The winners will be announced in January, 2019.

Not Just Law Enforcement

And let’s not stop with law enforcement! Your agency can also challenge others. You could start a challenge with the local hospital, advocacy center, or prosecutor’s office. Finally, you can answer that question of who’s most competitive – police, prosecutors, health care providers, or advocates!

You could even extend the challenge across your entire community, campus, tribe, or military base. Send us pictures, and maybe EVAWI will spotlight YOUR challenge on social media.

Start by emailing alison@evawintl.org, and then get ready to meet the challenge!
