Dr. T.C. Ham will offer a presentation on the danger and challenges of the anti-intellectualism that pervades much evangelical Christian culture. Dr. Ham describes the issue as follows:
"We often hear that the Bible is simple enough for a child to understand, but complex enough to interest scholars. Why is it then that my eleven-year-old son—who easily navigates the Chronicles of Narnia—has so much trouble with the Book of Matthew? The answer to this question may explain the condition of so many small group Bible studies in the churches today. It may also shed light on why people untrained in biblical or theological scholarship often presume to know what’s best for biblical and theological education. Moreover, the very heart of what it means to be a Christian may be subtly but profoundly shaped by the prevailing winds of anti-intellectualism in the Church. Ironically, Christian higher education and even biblical and theological scholarship are not free of the influences of anti-intellectualism."
