Event description

Description

October 23-24, 2019 - 9:00am - 5:00pm each day

$70.00 per person. Payment forms accepted: Credit Card (Online) or Check (See instruction on payment page).

The delivery of painless and humane death is one of the greatest responsibilities for animal medical staff. A euthanasia technician’s first responsibility is to the welfare of the animal; to assure that the animal is treated with compassion and respect, regardless of circumstance. The purpose of this training is the in-depth instruction of those responsible for this procuedure in generally recognized best practices of humane euthanasia by injection.

Michigan licensed veterinarians Dr. Shirene Cece, DVM, and Dr. Cathy Anderson, DVM will team-teach a 2 day workshop for staff of registered Michigan animal shelters. Drs. CeCe & Anderson are certified HSUS instructors authorized to instruct the Humane Society of the United States' Euthanasia By Injection curriculum.

Topics covered in this session will include:

  • Understanding how euthanasia drugs work

  • Calculating dosage

  • Humane restraint techniques

  • Appropriate administration methods

  • Managing euthanasia-related compassion stress

among others. Trainees will complete an administered final exam, which upon successful completion will entitle them to recieve a certificate of training in Euthanasia By Injection method. This training meets and exceeds the minimum requirement for euthanasia technician training as outlined in Michigan law (Public Health Code Act 738 Section 733) . NOTE: This course does NOT require participants to euthanize an animal. Additional practice under the direction of a veterinarian is strongly recommended before applying for certification.

PLEASE NOTE:

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Class sizes are small to encourage a better training experience. All trainees must register and process payment online via major credit card only. No on-site, day-of registration or purchasing is available.
