Event description

Description

Animals share this planet with us and for many of us they bring us loads of love. Animals also have skill sets that we put to use to save lives. Join us for this program to learn how dogs can help people with Parkinson's disease from early detection, daily assistance and therapeutic intervention.

Featuring PADS, Parkinson's Alert Dogs, from San Juan Islands Canine Detection Program. They are training dogs to determine whether, with their amazing sense of smell, it is possible to recognize an early marker for Parkinson's Disease. Lisa Holt will explain her training program and how you can get involved.

Also, Joys of Living Assistance Dogs will tell us how service dogs are helpful for managing daily life with Parkinson's. We will learn about how they train and match dogs. We will also learn about pet therapy services and how local emergency responders rely on them in crisis situations.

Therapy dog programs and other dog training programs will also be there.

Space will be limited for this program. Please register early.
