Communication Skills Group in Eugene, Oregon
About seventy-five percent of people with PD have changes in their speech, voice and swallowing at some point during the course of the disease. The same PD symptoms that occur in muscles of the body, tremor, stiffness and slow movement - can occur in the muscles used in speaking: A soft voice, mumbled or fast speech, loss of facial expression and problems communicating. This program includes exercises and discussion and practice of strategies that can help in day-to-day settings. Participants give each other feedback in a safe and supportive setting.
Instructor: Drew Douglass, MS, CCC-SLP
This program is not meant to replace speech therapy, but is a safe place to learn and practice new
communication skills and memory strategies. It is appropriate for those who have completed the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, (LSVT) as well as those who haven’t.
