Please join us for these virtual sessions as we continue to explore the intersections of music education, culturally responsive repertoire, and social emotional learning (SEL). Attendance is open to all - no prerequisites required other than a passion for music education!

Participants will be joined by ETM-LA Music Teachers and program staff members for these events. Attendees will be granted access to the Zoom link once registration is complete.

Darlene Machacon is an elementary general music teacher, choir director and private piano instructor in Orange County, California. She holds two bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Piano Performance from Biola University and is pursuing a master’s degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. In her school district, she held the position of elementary music department chair, is a mentor to pre-service and early-career teachers, and is currently the district honor choir director. In addition to teaching and mentoring, Darlene is an active presenter, social media content creator, and author, whose work focuses on challenging the status quo of music education. In her free time, she enjoys trying new cuisine and visiting Disneyland with her husband. To learn more about Darlene, her work can be found on and on Instagram/TikTok @thedarlingmusicteacher.

About the organizer

Education Through Music-Los Angeles provides music instruction to economically-disadvantaged schools in order to enhance students' academic performance and creative and general development. ETM-LA currently brings yearlong weekly music instruction to approximately 19,000 children across Los Angeles.

Founded in 2006, ETM-LA is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit based on the ETM model with over 30 years of success in New York City.
