Empowerment through Integration (ETI) strives to change the narrative surrounding disability both for blind and sighted youth. We provide the emotional support necessary to bring out the potential of the youth, empowering them to be confident in their abilities, with the belief that if we focus on the positive abilities of others, the world will be a better place. ETI works to achieve this mission through our main programming, which consists of a summer camp and a social project program, in addition to fundraising events just like this one!
Dining in the Dark is an interactive experience that is just as it sounds--we dine in the dark, blindfolded. The underlying purpose of dining in the dark is that it places individuals in a vulnerable position—dining as a blind person—in order to separate them from superficial labels and barriers. This helps to start a narrative surrounding identity and role of perceived identities in personal and professional interactions. All of this is done over a three-course, catered meal facilitated by our moderators.
In our previous offerings of Dining in the Dark, we have had amazing discussions surrounding identity and the role of sight in our interactions with others. We hope that you join us for a lively night of food and great discussion as we break down barriers and raise funds for the empowerment of blind youth in Lebanon and Nicaragua!
