What is corporate ethos and how can you develop and maintain an effective ethos within your organisation?

How do you select people for roles in your organisation whilst ensuring they share your values, and how can you defend against conscious or unconscious bias in your recruitment/promotion procedures?

How do you measure ethos during performance appraisals?

UK armed forces run operations not on the back of expensive equipment, but on manpower. Forming that manpower into a cohesive unit ready to execute operations requires ethos. Operations are mirrored by training, and therefore a key pillar of training design is the generation of ethos.

As a Royal Naval Training Management Officer Roly Wilson was responsible for designing ethos into hundreds of courses at Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, including courses linked to career progression. He was instrumental in the design of a 'personal qualities' matrix enabling personnel to be objectively selected on the basis of their ethos and values.

Since leaving the military Roly has worked in Financial Services for JPMorgan and Credit Suisse, advising on leadership development, before setting up his own succesful business. He now uses his experience and observations to advise companies on selecting and promoting on ethos and values, and on leadership development.and attitudes to risk.

Attendees will gain insight into how the military engenders a common ethos into a diverse mix of recruits, and have explained to them basic tools to measure ethos for selection and performance appraisal processes. Importantly attendees will also understand how these tools can provide cover against accusations of bias during the interview process, and in the current climate where accusations of bias and pay gaps are rife amongst large organisations, this is an evening not worth missing!

After the event there will be the opportunity for informal questions and networking with refreshment provided.
