Description

The Game Plan©: Ethics and experiential methods for clinical assessment, treatment planning and intervention - 6 CEs

Elevate their game. Improve your practice.

This is not your average CE training with 6 hours of lecture. This course is influenced by psychodramatic theory and practice. This engaging workshop is designed specifically for mental health, human services, and related helping professions, such as: social workers; mental health counselors; psychologists; case managers; juvenile justice personnel; and substance abuse counselors.

Using the metaphor and language of sports, The Game Plan© is an engaging and non-threatening method for practitioners to help their clients identify goals and use their own resources to enhance their mental health and quality of life.

This course will introduce The Game Plan© method through presentations, discussions, and experiential activities. Participants will use The Game Plan© approach to explore some of their own professional and/or personal goals so they come away with first-hand understanding of the process. In addition, applications to different client populations and settings will be discussed.

Training Goals. As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
• Attain a working knowledge of what the Code of Ethics say about your:
o Responsibility to clients using experiential methods
o Boundaries to practice using experiential methods
o Responsibility to client’s cultural and social choices
• The benefits and the challenges of using experiential methods
• Attain experience using the Role Wheel as an ethical decision-making tool
• Work through the steps in The Game Plan related to a professional or personal goal to provide first-hand experience of the steps in the process.
• Use The Game Plan with their clients, specifically to:
o Assess the client’s constellation of strengths to use throughout the process;
o Assess the client’s social network and see where, if any, is there a need or desire to repair or improve any interpersonal relationships;
o Support clients to take on different roles that build empathy, effective communication and personal efficacy.

For your participation, you will receive the presentation, The Game Plan Workbook©, and The Game Plan© Board to take back to your organization.

Course Instructor

Joshua Lee is a mental health professional, licensed as a clinical social worker in the state of Maryland with more than 18 years of experience providing services to public schools and other community-based organizations within the Baltimore metropolitan area. This includes working for many years with adults who have co-occurring disorders. He is owner of Umoja Integrative Behavioral Health Systems, LLC, a behavioral health organization, currently working with homeless men and women.

Growing leaders - at the level of individual, group and organization - is what Joshua has been doing for the past several years now. He’s involved in a global leadership training organization where he trains professionals in creating teams and teamwork in all aspects of their lives. He brings that experience to bear with working with formerly homeless men in an employment academy in the Baltimore area, infusing leadership principles and opportunities into the life skills curriculum he developed. In fact, under his guidance, the clients actually run the class. This gives them a greater sense of awareness, accountability and integrity with themselves and each other, thereby preparing them better for the world of work.

Now, Mr. Lee has created a powerful coaching and counseling model called The Game Plan©. This program guides the “player” through a self-discovery process to discover the real game they’ve been playing. Additionally, it supports them to push pass life’s “opponents”, such as fear and self-doubt, barriers to full employment and poor work climate or culture.
