Ethics Standards for Texas CPAs

TSBPA Approved Ethics - 4 hours of CPE

Cost for 4 hours of CPE: $100 per person

Learning Objectives:

Learn about the AICPA code of Professional Conduct and rules governing independence, integrity and objectivity; the number of different rules Texas CPAs must follow; the importance and relevance of an effective code of conduct; the basis for moral reasoning; what a CPA’s primary responsibilities are; the meaning behind “fiduciary relationship” and “stakeholder”; the accountant’s priority of duty and loyalty; the ethical responsibility of an accountant; the Texas ethics requirements for mandatory CPE requirement; and what ethics are and why the accounting profession needs ethics.

Instructional Method:

Charles W. Stanley, PhD, CPA, Associate Professor of Accounting, Baylor University will lecture from an outline. Dr. Stanley has served as the Regional Chairperson for the Southwest Region for the Auditing section of the American Accounting Association. He served on the Professional Ethics committee of the TSCPA from 1990 to 2007, including service as Chair of the Communication and Education subcommittee for the PEC. He currently is serving as a member of the Special Review Committee of the GFOA, on the Education committee for the Auditing section of the AAA, and the Professional Standards Committee for the TSCPA.

Level: Basic Level

Hours and Field of Study: 4 hours of ethics and no specific prerequisites and no advance preparation required.

Satisfactory meeting room temperatures are difficult to maintain. Always bring a sweater or jacket to ensure comfort. Casual attire is acceptable. Coffee, soft drinks and pastries will be available.
