Elisa Cruz-Torres is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst- Doctoral (BCBA-D)  and  utilizes her educational and clinical knowledge and experience to consult and coach families and professionals in using scientifically-validated academic and behavioral practices in the home, community, and school settings.

Training Description

Board Certified Behavior Analysts and other professionals providing behavioral services to persons with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) will face unique challenges and problems.  Among these are the nature of delivering early intervention services in the home and with parents often acting as co-therapists. Other issues also arise from home-based service delivery, the multiple and often pervasive needs of persons with ASD, and issues related to the evaluated risks faced by persons with ASD for unintentional injury.  Working in school settings often entails ethical challenges and the dictates of our Code of Ethics do not always align with those of school and district practices. Another challenge that has been identified is maintaining home based “early intervention programs” for an extended period of time when the child’s needs might more appropriately be served with a more functional and daily living skills program.

Training Objectives.

Participants will:

1. Identify concerns related to adherence to the Professional and Ethical Compliance Codes when collaborating with families to deliver early intervention home-based services for persons with ASD.
2. Recognize potential safety concerns that commonly occur in the provision of home-based services for persons with ASD.
3. Identify concerns related to adherence to the Professional and Ethical Compliance Codes when providing behavior analytic school-based services for students with ASD.
4. Discriminate between professional and ethical practices and violations to the code when presented with contrived scenarios.
