Description

ETHICS Diversity Inclusion Belonging: What's law and ethics got to do with it? (6 CEs)

Exploring the difference between diversity, inclusion and belonging and the relevance of law and ethics.

Have you begun making inquiries about starting a private practice in social work, counseling, or psychology? Are you looking to grow your current business? Do you believe you can make a more significant impact with additional insights from business strategists and other mental health professionals?

It’s been said that diversity is like being invited to party, inclusion is being asked to dance, and belonging is dancing like no one’s watching. Belonging is that sense of psychological safety that people can be their authentic selves without fear of judgment.

Common cultural competency issues relate to clients' and their gender; their sexual orientation; their religion; their ethnic background; and all the other components that make an individual unique. More than ever, mental health practitioners must communicate an awareness of culture, beliefs, and practices in order to ensure clients' expectations and treatment are properly aligned. The National Association of Social Workers, American Psychological Association, and American Counseling Association have specific guidelines in place to ensure that therapists remain culturally competent. Be sure your clients get the care they deserve. This one-day, 6 CE workshop will give you ways to adhere to your profession’s ethical guidelines.

Workshop topics include the following:

  • Describe what diversity and its related terms mean
  • Explain how changes in the world have affected you and your view
  • Identify your stereotypes
  • Use terms that are politically correct and avoid those which are not
  • Apply the four cornerstones of diversity
  • Avoid common pitfalls related to diversity
  • Develop a management style to encourage diversity
  • Take action if you or one of your employees feels discriminated against
