Did you know that SELF-AWARENESS is important in promoting cultural diversity?! Yes, SELF-AWARENESS!

The NASW Code of Ethics charges social workers to provide services that are sensitive to clients' cultures and differences. Cultural Diversity affects all facets of social work practice. It requires that the professional social worker to endeavor to deliver culturally sensitive services to a wide range of clients that is constantly increasing. It requires self-awareness, cultural humility, and the commitment to understanding and embracing the unique characteristics of those that we serve and of ourselves.

Through the lenses of Self-Awareness and Ethics: This workshop will enlighten the social work professional regarding standards and indicators of cultural awareness and empower social workers to engage in self-reflection and self- awareness.

Objectives:

  1. Identify ethical guidelines for culturally sensitive social work practice.

  2. Establish indicators to evaluate cultural sensitivity in practice.

  3. Clarify standards related to maintaining cultural awareness in practice.

  4. Participants will examine their own values/ biases to better understand how they impact social work practice.
