About this event
Offered as part of the Center for Art Law’s Artist Legacy and Estate Planning Clinic, this workshop is designed to give participants deeper insight into the logistics of organizing and managing artists’ oeuvre, the long view.
Questions to consider when faced with artists' estate planning and legacy are too many to mention, and they often include the following:
- What is the basis for effective artwork or estate management?
- How does one obtain an overview of the scope and quality of an artistic work or collection?
- What categories and classifications are available to structure and develop a profile of an artistic work, collection, or estate?
- How can conflicts between stakeholders and long-term management problems be avoided?
- Why is it relevant for strategic management decisions in administration, conservation, funding, organization, and networks to clarify these issues?
Our instructor: Cosima B. Rahmann, an art historian and a mediator specializing in art and estates management. Cosima will provide an overview of the latest research on what artists and their heirs should think about when doing estate planning and management. The workshop is designed to assist attendees get a better understanding of fiscal treatment and legal issues of artists' estates, as artists and art collectors look to get a handle on a vast physical body of artistic work.
