The “Establishing Trust in a Post-Truth World” panel will explore the fake news phenomenon and its impact on general society in this extremely volatile and rapidly evolving environment. With unique points of view and immense expertise in the news and information industry, our panelists led by moderator and veteran media exec Vivian Schiller will provide a thoughtful, boundary-pushing conversation full of insights around how to navigate this new landscape through the intersection of journalism, media and tech.

MODERATOR

Vivian Schiller | Editor in Chief, Weber Shandwick

Vivian Schiller is a longtime executive at the intersection of journalism, media and technology. She is executive editor-in-chief of global communications firm Weber Shandwick’s Mediaco content consulting and publishing practice, which helps brands institutionalize content publishing as a core engine of their PR and marketing mix. Previously, Vivian was the Global Chair of News at Twitter, general manager of NYTimes.com, Chief Digital Officer for NBC News and President and CEO of NPR.


PANELISTS

Daniel Rendon | CEO, Odeon

Daniel Rendon is the Founder and CEO of Odeon, a social news app currently in beta testing and based at 1871. Odeon provides a balance of fact-verified journalism, curated influencer content, and posts from other users. He is a 16-year veteran of digital media marketing with a concentration on branded content and integrated campaigns. Daniel is a former Director of Digital Media Sales at CBS Local Digital Media in New York and Chicago. He is also a former Marketing Director at AEG Live and Live Nation in Houston.


Ryan Osborn | VP, Newsroom Product, NBC News

Making his way through the ranks at NBC News, Ryan has worked to integrate broadcast, digital and social media stakeholders across the business. He served as product lead for NewsConnect, an enterprise collaboration tool, that has been adopted by over 1,000 journalists across diverse workflows.
Ryan was also part of the founding team behind TODAY's Orange Room.


Natalie Moore | South Side Reporter, WBEZ

A Chicago native, Natalie Moore is WBEZ's South Side Reporter where she covers segregation and inequality. Her enterprise reporting has tackled race, housing, economic development, food injustice and violence. Natalie’s work has been broadcast on the BBC, Marketplace and NPR’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered and Weekend Edition. Natalie is the author of The South Side: A Portrait of Chicago and American Segregation, winner of the 2016 Chicago Review of Books award for nonfiction and a Buzzfeed best nonfiction book of 2016.


John Bracken | Executive Director, Digital Public Library of America

A demonstrated leader in the field of digital innovation with nearly two decades of experience at philanthropic foundations, John recently joined DPLA as executive director to lead DPLA’s staff, board, and key stakeholders in developing a clear vision and strategy for DPLA’s future. Previously at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, John oversaw $100 million of technology funding, facilitated initiatives to enhance museum technology and library innovation, and supported projects to improve the creation, sharing, and use of information.
