Event description

Description

Essex is a place where writers seem to come from elsewhere for inspiration, or if native, leave and even disown as “dull suburbanity”. But then again, Wilko Johnson’s lyrics and Sarah Perry’s prose perhaps do articulate a strangeness, confusion, aggression and romanticism that is particular to Essex. Join writer and journalist, Tim Burrows as he ponders the question and reads from some of the great classic and contemporary ‘Essex’ literature.

Tim Burrows writes for The Guardian, Vice, the Quietus and Somesuch Stories. A recurring subject in his work is Essex. His short story Broadgate, set between the county’s marshland and the City of London, is included in the anthology An Unreliable Guide to London, published by Influx Press.
