The December 2016 Essex Studios Holiday Art Walk will take place from 6 to 10 pm on Friday, December 2nd and Saturday, December 3rd, 2016. The Art Walk is the perfect opportunity to buy holiday gifts and enjoy mingling with artists.
The Essex Studios is the site of a flourishing art scene with over 100 studios and artists working in every medium -- painting, colored pencil, pastel, photography, sculpture, glass, woodcarving, metal, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, graphic design, letterpress, and silkscreen.
The building is also home to community education classes for the Art Academy of Cincinnati, a dojo (martial arts) studio, a printing company, an actors’ studio, a cat museum (open Tuesday through Saturday, 3 to 6 pm), open studio watercolor workshops (offered by Karen Kelly weekly from 4 to 7 pm), and even a basement gym.
Along with browsing open studios, visitors to the Art Walks will be able to see guest artists’ work along the hallway walls, buy delicious food from vendors offering wings, pizza, and empanadas, and hear guest musicians playing festive music. New this year, the Clay Alliance will present its Holiday Pottery Fair in the lobby of the Essex during the Art Walk hours.
The Essex Studios comprises a 150,000 square foot building at 2511 Essex Place in Walnut Hills and is owned by Trent Heimann, the 4th generation heir to the Hamilton Tailoring Company, maker of custom suits. Heimann initiated the concept of the Essex Studios in 2000 by converting the entire building into studios rented to visual and performing artists, arts organizations, musicians, and other creatives.
Next year’s Art Walks will be held on the first Friday and Saturday nights of March, October, November, and December. The specific dates, so you can mark your calendars, will be March 3 and 4; October 6 and 7; November 3 and 4; and December 1 and 2 for the annual Holiday Art Walk.
