Event description

Description

CRC and CMRS received a grant from the McKnight Foundation to improve housing stability by increasing opportunities for mediation between landlords and tenants prior to Housing Court. In order to help prepare our volunteers to do this important work we are providing training on Landlord-Tenant law with Larry McDonough a national expert in this area.

If you are mediating at Housing Court or handling community mediations involving landlords and tenants, or neighbor disputes, you’ll want to attend this training. It will help you:

  • Understand the issues impacting landlords and tenants,
  • Eviction claims and defenses, tenant filed action claims and defenses (i.e. repair and lockout cases), and
  • When to refer low-income tenants and landlords for legal advice before continuing with the mediation.

What: Essentials of Landlord-Tenant Law for Mediators

When: Tuesday, October 31, 10:00 to 12:00

Where: The Wedge Table, 2105 Lyndale Ave S. Minneapolis, MN 55405

Who: Larry McDonough, JD. - Pro Bono Counsel at Dorsey and Whitney LLP., a national expert on landlord and tenant law litigation who has taught at all of the Minnesota law schools as well as conferences throughout the United States.

We are only able to accept volunteers of Community Mediation Centers and will prioritize volunteers working in Housing Court.
