We will explore the various methods used and how to identify the appropriate method and tools based on entity size, type, industry and stakeholders, and discuss best practice for related processes, timelines and communication. Strategic Planning II: Gap Assessing & Performance Improvement

Foundational course providing a methodology and guidelines for reviewing an existing strategic plan and process to identify potential gaps, weaknesses or areas of untapped strength. Attendees will learn the fundamentals of the gap assessing process as well as how to identify the appropriate best practice measures for organizations of various types, sizes and industries. In the workshop, attendees will apply foundational principles to case studies and/or their own relevant scenarios by participating in a series of exercises designed to reveal common issues with strategy execution and how to correct those issues. Then, they will risk-assess strategic objectives to identify obstacles to success in their functional area, division or organization. The key output for each attendee will be completion of a self-assessment in at least one area of difficulty with recommendations on how to remedy to improve performance.

Defining Risk Appetite through KPI and KRIs

This course explains the concept of design and practical application of risk appetite and tolerance statements. Attendees will learn how to develop meaningful statements and define risk capacity, triggers and thresholds that can be cascaded and reported. Attendees will learn how to define KPIs and KRIs to support risk appetite/tolerance controls, and inversely how to use already-defined performance metrics to build risk appetite statements by working through a series of exercises in designing statements and metrics relevant to their function, division or organization. In the workshop attendees will practice developing a risk appetite framework that is relevant and applicable to their functional area, division and/or organization by defining the boundaries of low, medium and high risk. A key output for attendees is the design or assessment of risk appetite and tolerance statement for their organization with at least one set of KPIs and KRIs relevant to their function.

This course is designed for leaders who need to understand the fundamental structure of risk and resilience processes and how they can be most effectively and efficiently applied within an organization as both a function and a discipline. Attendees will learn how to apply context to department, system or function in order to properly identify risk and develop or test risk controls. We will also delve into helpful tools used in risk and resilience planning and will show how to modify these tools to best serve the purpose at hand.
