Description

Course objectives: Dental esthetics is popular and important for all disciplines of dentistry and especially for patients. The clinically visible esthetic area includes both teeth and gingiva representing different aspects of esthetics that must blend to create the optimal appearance. Although esthetic concepts and techniques often focus on prosthetic restorations, the gingival contribution to esthetics is essential to achieving optimal, long lasting esthetic results. Periodontal health is critical to esthetics. Clinicians must understand the unique anatomical and clinical features of the tissues that surround and support teeth and implants in the anterior maxilla. Every clinical procedure must be supported by a thorough understanding of biology and science while simultaneously allowing for clinical judgement and decision-making since esthetics is individual and subjective. The goal of this presentation is to correlate the similarities and differences between the natural dentition and dental implants, which must be understood to achieve predictable esthetic results.
