About this Event

Dear Esperanza supporters and friends,

We’re so excited to announce the lineup for our 11th annual benefit concert on Friday June 7!

This year, we’ll be presenting the Esperanza Award to JBG Smith, our largest corporate supporter for four years running. For the past four years, JBG Smith has supported at least one full scholarship for an Esperanza scholar. They have opened their doors to our organization, and their JBG Cares committee has provided us with invaluable direct support from their employees.

We will also enjoy a musical performance by DC’s very own Haile Supreme, who mixes his Ethiopian roots with hip hop and jazz to create a unique, new sound hailed in magazines like Complex and Afropunk. Haile Supreme is also part of a collective of other new artists making waves in music festivals across the US including SXSW. Also, we will awarding our 2019 Scholarship Recipients and all the achievements of our Scholars these past 11 years.

Since 2009, the Esperanza Education Fund has awarded close to $1 million dollars in scholarships to help immigrant students beat the odds to attend and finish college. So far we have reached nearly 99 scholars attending and completing a wide range of public universities and college across the United States. We recognize our linked fates and celebrate our common humanity with the belief that all students, regardless of status and background, should have access to higher education. Please join us for what promises to be an exciting and moving evening!

This year's benefit concert and awards ceremony is brought to you by our 2019 Host Committee: Erin Fackler and Roman Goldstein, Don Graham, Cecilia Muñoz, Tom Olson and Jocelyn Samuels, and Robert Raben.
