"Escape into Art” - art workshops in Downtown Port Townsend, Saturday May 4th, 2013.
These workshops are being planned as a hands-on arts experience and proceeds benefit children’s arts programs in the Port Townsend Public Schools. It is being coordinated by local teaching artists Susan Doyle, Jesse Joshua Watson, Wanda LeClerc and Margie McDonald. The workshops are inspired by the Jefferson Museum of Art and History’s current “Scapes” exhibit which features landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes. Space is limited, reserve your spot today! Workshop fee of $40 is by suggested donation.
Workshops will meet at The Jefferson Museum of Art and History to view the current exhibit "Scapes" prior to class.
Teaching artist Wanda Leclerc will teach Silk Batik. You will learn the basics of silk painting using clear gutta resist and silk dyes on a stretched silk, 8" hoop. The results are beautiful; come and join us! You will leave with a finished circular silk batik. 10am -12pm
Teaching artist and sculptor Margie McDonald with artist Max Grover will teach collaboratively a Calderesque Wire Sculpting and Collage class. Our theme is PT City scapes and we will explore the possibility of combining "Calder-esque" wire figures with 2 Dimensional collage work. 1pm - 3pm
Teaching artist and illustrator Jesse Joshua Watson will teach a Drawing class focusing on Line, Value and Tone with a theme of seascapes. We will be using multiple kinds of drawing materials in this class. 1pm - 3pm

PT Artscape’s mission is to provide creative experiences to young people in our public schools. We are collaborating with several organizations to reach this goal and provide many arts opportunities to our Port Townsend students, such as, teaching artists who work collaboratively with classroom teachers to delivers arts integrated projects throughout the disciplines. We send the Blue Heron sixth grade to Centrum for a week of arts immersion taught by a diverse staff of teaching artists. Our public showcase, Art Wave is an annual display of student art; kindergarten through twelfth grade in uptown and downtown businesses each May.
The “Escape into Art” fundraiser is sponsored by PT Artscape in partnership with the Port Townsend Main Street Program, Port Townsend School District, Washington State Arts Commission, , The Jefferson Museum of Art and History, Centrum, Port Townsend Arts Commission, participating businesses, and generous Arts Education supporters.
