Event description

No basement, garage, or dining room table you can clamp a vice and table saw to? Or, maybe you have plenty of space, but no tools or hands-on experience? Well, we've got you covered. Come use our 600-square-foot workshop full of tools and realize your vision to finally build that opossum house, toothpick crossbow or, well, even something outlandish! Bring your drawings, ideas, and materials (or purchase materials from the warehouse at 25% off) and manifest your vision! If you're stumped trying to execute that tiny opossum house chimney or need help operating power tools and equipment, the shop will be run by long-time woodworker Tom Cray.

Tom Cray has a BFA in Fine Arts and a MFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design, which led him to work as a high-end cabinetmaker for several years and then as a product designer for 25 more. In addition to joining our team as an instructor at the Evanston Rebuilding Warehouse, Tom also teaches with the Chicago School of Woodworking. When he isn’t teaching, he is working away in his own shop building furniture, including period reproductions, and designing and building boxes with marquetry.
