Event description

Description

Coinciding with the MMOPA Safety Stand Down, we are sponsoring a full-day weather radar seminar with renowned expert Erik Eliel. If you missed him at the 2019 convention, here's your chance to learn PA46-specific radar knowledge that will make you a safer and more accomplished pilot.

The comprehensive seminar is ideal for pilots seeking a strong foundation of knowledge, skill, and confidence in their radar systems. Although the core of the seminar is anchored in the tactics, techniques, and limitations of airborne weather radar, this program is a comprehensive convective weather program and includes other critical topics such as human factors, risk management and properly integrating NEXRAD technology into the overall weather strategy.

Arrive by 8:45 a.m. for coffee; the seminar starts at 9 a.m. sharp. Lunch will be provided.

SkyTech, the Piper Aircraft sales representative for the Mid-Atlantic region, will provide an outstanding lunch, as well as provide a short, informative presentation.

Airport & Accommodations:

KSPA features a 5,852 ft. runway (05/23) and numerous approaches. It has a large, spacious ramp and a new, city-run FBO/terminal.

For those who would like to stay the night, MMOPA Member Dean Garritson is arranging a dinner at a local restaurant. For a list of nearby hotels click HERE.

About Erik Eliel: Erik is the founder and president of Radar Training International, has been involved in aviation since 1979. His earliest years as a professional aviator were as an Air Force pilot flying the T-38, C-141, and the U-2. His interest with radar began in 1991 while flying airlift and transport missions to Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. In 1997, Erik was selected to join the cadre of instructors at the Air Force Advanced Instrument School in San Antonio, Texas, teaching advanced instrument concepts to pilots representing NASA, federal law enforcement agencies, and all branches of the DOD. It was here that Erik developed and taught the first-ever formal weather radar course for Air Force pilots.

He has been called on by the manufacturers of airborne weather radar systems to consult in the design, operational employment, and evaluation of their systems. His radar- and weather-related articles have been published in the NBAA Journal of Business Aviation and in Business & Commercial Aviation. In addition, his input has been solicited for safety-orientated publications such as the Flight Safety Foundation’s magazine AeroSafety World. Erik has over 13,000 hours of flying time and is currently a line pilot for a major airline, logging more than 800 hours annually. He also maintains his CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings. His company, Radar Training International, maintains active memberships in multiple professional flying organizations and associations including the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).
