Description

This in person training will prepare healthcare professionals to train colleagues in medical offices and clinics.

Registration begins at 8:30am with the seminar starting promptly at 9:00am.

NO charge to attend.

Intended Audience:

Target Audience--Provider Types:

  • Physicians (services may be performed by another provider type under the supervision of the physician)
  • Nurse Practitioners
  • Nurse Midwives
  • Psychologists
  • Physician Assistants
  • Registered Nurses
  • Licensed Practical Nurses
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselors
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
  • Certified School Counselor
  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor
  • OASAS-credentialed professionals including Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASACs), Credentialed Prevention Professionals (CPPs) and Credentialed Problem Gambling Counselors
  • Medical residents, Medical interns and licensed professionals who have graduated but who have not yet taken/passed their licensing exam.

To qualify for this training, you MUST:

  1. Be a licensed healthcare professional (included in the Target Audience list shown above);

  2. Have prior experience in training (in any healthcare topic);

  3. Have prior experience with SBIRT, which can include completion of the 4-hour course on the OASAS web site (www.oasas.ny.gov) or the ECDOH October 14, 2017 in-person SBIRT training; [NOTE: If you plan on completing SBIRT training before December 2, 2017, you will be able to attend the Training of Trainers (ToT) training. Please send documentation of completion of 4-hour SBIRT course to mary.stmary@erie.gov before the December 2nd ToT course.]

  4. Agree to train other healthcare professionals, such as in your organization

If you do NOT meet the above criteria, you will NOT be allowed to take this training.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify patients who misuse alcohol or other drugs using a standardized screening protocol
  • Describe the goals/processes of Brief Interventions (BI), Brief Negotiated Interviews (BNI), and Brief Treatments (BT)

Note: This is the only SBIRT training of trainers that ECDOH will be able to offer for a significant period of time.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and Northeast & Caribbean Addiction Technology Transfer Center (NeC-ATTC). The University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CERTIFICATION

The University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
