Where will we be mapping? Cyclone Idai

For the week of eResearch Africa the focus will be on mapping around Cyclone Idai. Humanitarian Open Street Team has activated to support the disaster response operations of several Missing Maps partners responding to the impact of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, one of the worst humanitarian crises in Mozambique’s recent history.

Cyclone Idai made landfall on 15 March in the city of Beira located in Central Mozambique. The cyclone wreaked havoc on Beira and its surrounding areas, resulting in significant damage and destruction to shelter and settlements, health, water and sanitation facilities, as well as large areas of crops.

Updated maps are an integral part of the emergency response planning. Your mapping will be used by teams from across Missing Maps, International Federation of the Red Cross and other humanitarian actors to deliver their responses.
