Our festival has been created to highlight and award the diverse and creative efforts of those who artistically pay homage to the horse. The festival empowers storytellers to show the rich history and diverse tapestry of horses in human culture through equestrian content. We have feature films, documentaries, shorts, music videos, commercials, training educational materials, art and literature.
As home to the storytellers of the horse world, the EQUUS Film Festival, November 17-20, 2016 in New York City is the first event of its kind dedicated to equestrian-themed film, fine art and authors. The EQUUS Magazine Directors Panels, EQUUS Pop-Up artist, filmmaker and literary gallery, Li'l Herc™ Family Fest with free Saturday family film, Sunday tours of the Carriage Horses Stables, and a Thursday evening VIP Party, winding up with the WININE Award Event on Sunday are all part of the festival event program.
Founded in 2013 by Lisa Diersen, the EQUUS Film Festival 2015 presented over 150 films and 32 WINNIE Awards including Equestrian Art Film, Director, Documentary, Commercial, International, Music Video, People’s Choice and Best of Festival. The addition of WINNIE Award categories in 2016 for Literature and Art will round out our commitment to being the home to the storytellers of the horse world.
Many exciting things are planned this year and new opportunities are presenting themselves across the country and around the world. We have wonderful events happening and good news to share with you and would be honored if you would join us!
Our filmmakers, artists and authors made the EQUUS Film Festival 2015 in New York City a stellar event! The response to both the films and the Pop-Up Gallery has been overwhelming. Some of our film entries have now moved into major distribution and are up for many other awards, both nationally and internationally. We are very proud of our content, helping to develop new equestrian films and igniting the flame of new storytellers.
We are taking the WINNIE Award winners and special select films from the EQUUS Film Festival on tour to places like The Kentucky Horse Park, Ocala Florida's Silver Springs International Film Festival,Camden,South Carolina, The Preakness in Baltimore Maryland, Santa Fe New Mexico, Germany, France, Canada and to wherever the horse world invites us. We are working with one of the country’s premier equestrian facilities to permanently host the EQUUS Film Festival Tour and talks are going on to take the tour to other countries. Work is continuing on finding a pay-per-view home for the EQUUS Film Festival collection, giving filmmakers more opportunities to benefit from their work and expand their global reach.
People love the idea and we love sharing our love of horses with the world. We are a platform to educate and enlighten the world to all stories and issues related to horses.
