Dear EquityPAC members,
You mobilized your money, your network, and over 300 hours in the last two months to help get Equity PAC endorsed candidates into public office! You helped send Representative Winnie Brinks back to Lansing, and newcomers Kristian Grant to the Grand Rapids School Board, Phil Skaggs to the County Commission, and Kenyatta Brame to the Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees. These are huge gains for us in a short amount of time! We know these candidates want to make sure that their governance and institutions create outcomes that are good for all of us - not just some of us. We will bring them back to membership to hear about their challenges and give input on the issues that are important to you.
This Tuesday also showed us that there is much work to be done to ensure everyone has the right to thrive in this country. While we understand the electoral college will send Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States, we don’t believe he speaks for all Americans. Many of us are confused and hurt that so many of our fellow Americans - people we love, live, work, and worship with - supported him and his policies. We know that racism and bigotry still exists in our county, but this level of support for Trump's divisive messaging and plans for our nation was a deep blow and is a real threat to creating equitable communities.
It is for this reason that EquityPAC is calling a membership meeting for Board Members to lead a discussion with our membership on our strategy moving forward into next year. However, much of our time will be spent discussing the election, trying to understand people’s feelings, what is actually happening within the electorate, and how much we are willing to work for change. This will be a vitally important meeting to attend so we will offer two different dates and locations.
Please attend. Please invite two or more people that you think should be a part of EquityPAC. Now is the time to grow and organize.
Equity PAC Board of Trustees
