Event description

Description

This Introduction to Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) workshop will give tutors an opportunity to learn and engage in activities to support their efforts in reducing equity gaps and improving student success outcomes. Facilitators, Arnita Porter and Paula Brown, will introduce CRTL modules on Race and Culture, Mindsets, Learning Barriers, and Social Capital, and demonstrate specific practices to support their efforts as tutors and equity practitioners. Participants will be guided through engaging discussions and activities to increase awareness and deepen their understanding of learning barriers, such as unconscious bias and stereotype threat, and will be provided with strategies to address these barriers as they learn to reimagine their students from a strength-based perspective. Tutors will also learn the importance of designing turtoring sessions to increase a students' sense of belonging - sessions that are welcoming, supportive, and learning-centered.
