Learn the story of the Harlem Speedway --a tax-payer-funded equine raceway where New York's richest raced their horses-- best viewed from the stunning span of High Bridge Park. Hear about women of the Heights such as Mary Philipse Morris, Eliza Jumel, Anna Hyatt Huntington (and her predecessors), Lou Dillon, Lena Horn and Marjorie Eliot.
A fabulous hike of about 2 miles with fascinating history featuring fast horses, faster women, big money and outrageous characters! As we walk our way to the High Bridge, Robin will talk about the area's Revolutionary War, Gilded Age, baseball and jazz histories, and show you magnificent street art and sculpture along the route.
This tour last approximately 2 hours and requires extensive walking. Suitable for families. Museum visits are not included as part of the guided schedule, however there will be time to visit following the tour. Entrance fees to museums are not included in tour price and are the responsibility of the client.
