The purpose of Equestrian Coaching Edge™ (ECE) is to build a community where equestrian riders gather and learn together in order to achieve personal horsemanship goals. This innovative and affordable program is designed to create new possibilities in horsemanship achievement across multiple disciplines by offering similarly-skilled riders unique cooperative learning opportunities. Each session delivers specific curriculum, and features personalized coaching and peer-to-peer activities in an environment that fosters confidence, safety, mastery, enjoyment, fellowship, and celebration.

DISCOUNT MULTI-SESSION PACKAGES
Multiple-session discount packages are now available to any participant interested attending three or more sessions, over a one year period. These packages are designed to offer savings when purchased in advance. Certain restrictions apply.

Discount packages must be purchased in advance to receive the discount rate for each session Redemption codes will be provided to participants in order to enroll in specific group session dates; participant must inform Happy Hoof Beats in advance of the sessions they will enroll in, in order to activate the discount code for those group sessions Redemption codes are valid for six-months from date of purchase, at which time they expire Only one discount code may be used per participant per group session date; redemption codes are non-transferable and may only be used by the participant who purchased them, or if purchased on behalf of another participant may only be used by that participant Discount packages purchased on the behalf of other participants, may be assigned to only one person and may not be broken up into smaller packages, or redeemed by more than one person—all multiple-session requirements apply to recipients of these packages purchased on their behalf

Barbara H. Callihan is a third generation equestrian coach and trainer, and a fourth generation Nevadan who has earned an impeccable reputation as one of the most respected horsewomen in the Southern Nevada community. An equestrian professional for more than 60 years, Barbara is committed to equestrian excellence and develops personalized horsemanship coaching and equine training programs across multiple competitive and recreational disciplines. Barbara is passionate about coaching and training, and takes great pride in helping anyone realize their equestrian dreams, fostering fellowship in the equestrian community, and giving people from all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds a fun and safe place to celebrate their love of horses. She believes if you dream it, and work for it, it’s possible.

Since 2009 Barbara has been an active competitor and judge in emerging competitive trail disciplines including ACTHA, Equine Trail Sport (ETS), and International Mountain Trail Challenge Association (IMTCA). In 2014 Barbara and her horse Chunky Monkey successfully completed a full year of ACTHA competition and finished the year as Nevada State Champion as well as National Top Five competitor. In 2015 she completed certification as an ETS judge and currently judges and competes in ETS events in Southern Nevada. In the summer of 2016 Barbara began her studies under IMTCA founder Mark Bolender and completed her certifications as an IMTCA judge, coach, and trainer. Today Barbara is a certified IMTCA Extreme Mountain Trail coach and clinician. She is also the 2018 IMTCA Northwest Level 3 Open Regional Champion on her horse Chunky Monkey, which qualifies her to meet her personal and professional goal of participating in the first IMTCA World Championships in 2019/2020 — next stops the Olympics.

Liability Release — Required — Download Now

All participants and auditors are required to sign and turn in an unaltered liability release. The release must be notarized, or you must provide a copy of your driver's license—front and back. The liability release will be included in the Welcome Packet that is emailed to you, or you can download it from Happy Hoof Beats website.

Photography and Video Release — Required — Download Now

All participants and auditors are required to sign and turn in an unaltered photography and video release. The release must be notarized, or you can provide a copy of your driver's license — front and back. This release allows Barbara H. Callihan, Happy Hoof Beats Equestrian Center, Mark H. Bolender, Bolender Horse Park, and International Mountain Trail Challenge Association (IMTCA) to use any photographs and video taken during coaching sessions for social media, marketing and promotional purposes, including the selling and/or renting of videos via DVD or online. The photography and video release is in your Welcome Packet, or you can download it from Happy Hoof Beats website.

No Dogs or Other Pets Allowed

Dogs and other pets are not allowed on the premises, including in the dry camping facilities, except service dogs wearing their service identification, which are allowed

Arrival, Parking & Checking-In

  • Participants for coaching clinics and seminars should check-in at least one hour before start time
  • Auditors for coaching clinics and seminars should check-in at least 30 minutes before start time
  • Competitors should arrive early to allow enough time for check-in and warm-up, at least one hour is recommended
  • All Competitors, Participants, Auditors, and Guests must be checked-in at entrance gate by an HHB team member
  • Signage will direct trucks and horse trailers, and cars to the parking and dry camping area

Safety Rules, Requirements, and Suggestions for Competitors, Riders and Handlers

  • All riders are strongly recommended to wear an ASTM/SEI certified riding helmet; all riders 17 years of age or younger are required to wear an ASTM/SEI certified riding helmet
  • Please arrive early to allow at least hour before the start of the session to allow enough time for warm up riding and/or lunging; the session will begin on time.
  • The main arena will be well marked and open for warm up on horseback at check-in time
  • If you are attending a coaching clinic or seminar, please DO NOT ride over any preset cavalletti grids or obstacles in the main arena
  • A round pen will be open at check-in time, designated for lunging or riding — please restrict usage time to 15 minutes per horse
  • No lunging in the main arena—no exceptions
  • Both English and Western tack are appropriate
  • Snaffle bits or snaffle-sided bits are recommended
  • Usage of splint boots or other protective boots are encouraged to prevent injuries to horse’s legs
  • Participants on horseback must be at least 13 years of age, or receive pre approval from Happy hoofbeats
  • All stallions are to be managed and ridden by an adult — 18 years and older—no exceptions
  • Stallions are required to wear yellow ribbons in their tails while on HHB property
  • Double tie stallions and other excitable horses while at your horse trailer
    If your horse kicks he must wear a red ribbon in his tail at all times
  • Horses that are not under control will be asked to leave the session
  • All riders are strongly recommended to wear riding boots with heels that are at least 1/2" — no tennis shoes or open toes shoes will be allowed
  • Dress to protect yourself from the elements including sun, wind, heat or cold
  • Bring refillable water bottles — marked with your name — and healthy snacks to keep yourself hydrated and nourished
  • Beautiful open desert area available for additional lounging and riding as needed

Auditor and Spectator Information and Safety Recommendations

  • A raised, uncovered* viewing area is available alongside the arena for Auditors that seats eight; there are additional ground-level chairs and tables also alongside the arena that seat an additional eight. Seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Dress to protect yourself from the elements including sun, wind, heat or cold
  • The facility is equipped with a speaker system to broadcast the clinic instructor’s coaching, direction, and explanations
  • Always stay outside the arena, unless invited inside the arena by the session coach
    Bring refillable water bottles — marked with your name — and healthy snacks to keep yourself hydrated and nourished

*Due to cost restraints, we are unable to cover the raised viewing area at this time.

Facility Courtesy Rules

  • Please keep your parking/trailer area clean, including the pick-up and removal of all horse manure before departure
  • No Smoking — Happy Hoof Beats is a non-smoking facility.
  • No Dogs or Other Pets — Dogs are not allowed onto the facility, including the dry camping facilities unless they are a certified Service animals and clearly identified; you must notify HHB in advance that a certified service dog will be accompanying you
  • No Alcohol — Happy Hoof Beats is an alcohol free zone — please do not bring or drink alcoholic beverages on the property

Hospitality

  • Water for horses is available at the west end of the main arena near the entrance gate; bring your own horses’ bucket to fill
  • Two porta-potties are available on the facility; one is located at west end of property, behind horse corrals; a second is located on the dry camping and parking area
  • Hoses are available for Participants, Auditors, and Guests to refill water bottles
  • Bottled water, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, soda and energy bars or donuts will be available for a donation — all proceeds benefit L.E.A.N, a Las Vegas nonprofit that helps horses that have been abandoned or neglected. Horses are then fostered by volunteers until they are adopted

Photos and Videos Are Not Allowed at Clinics
Participants on horseback, auditors, and guests are asked NOT to take photos or videos during the clinic. Images and video posted online, when viewed out of context, can be misconstrued and misunderstood by those who have not completed the clinic. Anyone taking photos or videos will be asked to leave the property. Refunds will not be issued for any reason. When possible HHB will have an official photographer on site during the clinic who will take photos.

Photos and Videos Are Allowed At Challenges and Social Events
Participants on horseback, auditors, and guests are encouraged to take photos and/or video of any kind, including smartphone video, during Challenges. When possible HHB will also have a photographer on-site to take photos and videos.

Weather Cancellations
Happy Hoof Beat reserves the right to cancel and reschedule coaching clinics and events in case of inclement weather, including rain, thunderstorms/lightning storms, and/or high winds. When possible registrants will be given a 24 hours notice of cancellation—although it's not likely, cancellation might occur on the day of a coaching clinic or event.

Cancellations and Credits - Events
Event Registrants who are not able to participate are required to give 48 hours notice of their inability to attend, in order for their fees to be credited towards a future event or other HHB services or coaching clinics — refunds will not be issued for any reason. If a horse is sick or lame on the day of the Event, Registrant will be credited their fees towards a future event or other HHB services or coaching clinic with verification in writing by a vet. Registrants who do not give 48 hours notice that they cannot attend will not receive a refund, nor will they receive credit for future group instructions. Credits may be transferred to other persons in writing. Special considerations are made for family and horse emergencies.

Dry Camping & Portable Corrals
Lodging, boarding, and hookups are not currently available at the Happy Hoof Beats Equestrian Center. A nearby location, adjacent to Happy Hoof Beats Equestrian Center has been secured for dry camping, including water for horses — at no additional costs. We also now offer 20 x 20 portable corrals for your horses in the dry camping area. Bring your own water container —
5 gallon water bucket suggested — and hay net or bag. If you want bedding you must bring your own. If needed upon arrival you will be directed where to park. All bedding and manure must be cleaned out of your corral and/or put into manure container supplied, failure to do this will result in an additional cleaning fees to be paid before you leave.

20’ x 20’ Portable Corral — Guest Cleans and Strips* - $15.00 per night
20’ x 20’ Portable Corral — HHB Cleans and Strips - $25.00 per night
*Cleaning Fees For Uncleaned Corrals Post Event - $30.00 flat fee
