Event description

Description

The Women’s Learning Partnership (WLP) is pleased to present a co-sponsored event with the Elliott School's Gender Equality Initiative (GEIA) and Institute for African Studies (IAfS), as well as the African Affairs Committee of the UNA-NCA as part of its global advocacy campaign to raise awareness of and educate the public on discriminatory family laws around the world.

A screening of WLP’s documentary film on the topic, Equality: It’s All in the Family, will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with a special focus on family law reform in African countries. The discussion/Q&A will be led and monitored by representatives and scholars from the African Affairs Committee, WLP, and The George Washington University.

Panelists include:

    • Allison Horowski, COO of WLP
    • Patricia DiVecchio, President of International Purpose
    • Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, Visiting Scholar & Associate Director, Institute for African Studies, GW
    • Additional Panelists (TBD)

This event will encourage practitioners, scholars, students, and policymakers interested in this issue to learn how inequitable family laws impact the security and wellbeing of women, girls, and their communities. Attendees will also be given the opportunity to become a part of the global advocacy campaign to reform these laws. Please note that refreshments will be provided by our sponsor International Purpose.
