About the Program:

This one hour lecture covers a discussion on providing assistance to military veterans in our civil and criminal court systems who suffer a mental health problem stemming from military service.
About the Speaker:
Judge Krauel has served on the San Diego County Superior Court since 1999. His caseload has included criminal trials, from traffic tickets to murder cases, Domestic Violence Court, Mental Health Court, Annual Stand Down Court, Monthly Homeless Court, Drug Court, and the Kids in Court program.
He currently presides over a new San Diego program, Veterans Treatment Review Calendar Pilot Project. The VTRC manages the probation of active-duty and discharged veterans who have been convicted of an offense committed as a result of a mental health problem stemming from service in the United States military.
Judge Krauel was an active and reserve member of the U.S. Army from 1967 to 2002. He is a Vietnam and OEF veteran, Airborne Ranger, Green Beret, and a retired Colonel. His last assignment was as a special operations officer focusing on joint counter terrorism activities in the Pacific Theater. He earned a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, Air Medal, and two Meritorious Service Medals.
