Event description

Description

Welcome to the Epiphany Club

Purpose of the event

The purpose of this event is to establish an informal group called the Epiphany Club for physiotherapists in Yorkshire interested in evidence-based practice. The Epiphany Club aims to improve communication, working relationships and collaborations between clinical physiotherapists and research physiotherapists. The Epiphany Club will meet two to three times a year in a variety of convenient locations, and not always in the pub!

General outline of meeting

- Welcome and introductions

- Introduction to Clinically Appraised Topics (CATs), which we propose as one potential aim of the Epiphany Club

- Pub quiz including opportunity to give details of why you came and what you would like from the Epiphany Club

- Opportunity to mix socially, to ask questions and exchange information

Introductions

We will briefly introduce ourselves and explain why we proposed the Epiphany Club. For example, we hope the Epiphany Club will:

  • improve the working relationships between clinical and research-based physiotherapists

  • increase involvement of physiotherapists and their teams in supporting research projects

  • support physiotherapists who wish to take their own steps into research

  • support the implementation and dissemination of evidence

  • conduct clinically-appraised topics (CATs)

  • develop research questions

Introduction to Critically-apppraised Topics

At Keele University, clinicians and researchers have been working together to produce evidence-based guidelines through Critically-Appraised Topics (CATs). We will show an example of a CAT, explain the procedure, and discuss whether CATs would be a useful outcome of the Epiphany Club. Benefits of CATs include the production of evidence-based clinical 'bottom lines' that change practice of physiotherapy teams, the generation of research questions, and the underpinning of physiotherapy managers' requests to Clinical Commissioning Groups for increased funding.

Pub Quiz

We will put on a slightly geeky but fun quiz. There will be no questions about soap stars, minor celebrities or X Factor winners/losers.

FAQs

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Public transport

The Waiting Rooms is/are two minutes walk from Leeds City Railway Station. It is half a mile and 11 minutes walk from the bus station.

Driving

There are two large multi-storey car parks very close to The Waiting Rooms, reached along Swinegate from Leeds Bridge and The Calls. The two car parks are either side of the road just before the railway bridge, the other side of which is The Waiting Rooms. Please remember that the 145 year old grade II-listed Leeds Bridge is closed for repairs, and a diversion is in place, but you may wish to pre-plan your own route.

What can I bring into the event?
