Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Tech Networks of Boston (TNB) hosts roundtables every other Friday afternoon. These are informal discussions and presentations, on a wide range of topics of interest to TNB's staff, nonprofit clients, and friends.

Our featured speaker on February 14th will be Marlene Archer, co-founder of Semi-New Computers, a social enterprise that keeps usable computers out of the landfill by refurbishing them.

In addition to the obvious environmental benefits of this project, it also serves individuals, families, and small businesses that would not otherwise be able to afford a computer, and offers training in marketable skills to youth who are living with autism.

Moreover, many nonprofits have availed themselves of many of the computers that have been refurbished, thus decreasing the cost of their technology infrastructures.

Here's a bit more about Marlene:

Marlene Archer, the former Public Service Coordinator of the Boston Computer Society, started a computer recycling program for the society in 1993. Currently, she is a partner with Charles Thompson in Semi-New Computers, a program she started with students at Harvard. The program now includes autistic adolescents who are taught to refurbish computers donated by Harvard.

Please note that this session will not be a sales pitch for any product or service; it will be an educational opportunity for nonprofit professionals to learn along with their peers from other organizations.

We hope that you can join us for a lively conversation! Please respond to this invitation, to let us know whether you'll be attending. We are running a very popular series in a very small conference room, so a definite answer is real help to us.

Best regards from Deborah
