Event description
Join us as we have a conversation about EPA Data Language Accessibility and Environmental Justice in Latinx communities.

About this event

Latinx communities are disproportionately affected by environmental pollution and climate change. For example, on average, Latinx communities are burdened by 63% more hazardous air pollution than they create by their consumption. Yet, the EPA website resources and the EPA ECHO website are not fully available in Spanish. The little information that is available in Spanish is overly technical and can be difficult to understand. What is worse is that ECHO data itself is not available in Spanish, making it difficult for people who are primarily Spanish speakers to access and analyze this data. How can we change this? What can be done?

EEW has made Spanish Language versions of our English, State and Congressional District report cards (which make ECHO data more accessible to the general public) to make this data more accessible to primarily Spanish Speaking communities. This is just one example of the amazing work people have done to serve Latinx communities affected by the lack of environmental enforcement, and there's even more work that needs to be done.

Join us Thursday, May 13, 6:00-7:30 PM ET as different environmental justice groups and Latinx advocacy groups talk about their work, and the work that still needs to be done as we advocate for environmental justice in Latinx communities. Join us as we discuss recommendations for the EPA to make this data more accessible to Latinx communities.
