Description

This program is intended for teens and adults with Down syndrome who are interested learning how to start their own micro-enterprises and implementing what they learn! The program will begin with a 6 week once a week evening class. In this Entrepreneur Bootcamp, experts in the field will review various topics ranging from brainstorming the idea, to evaluating the market, to advertising to your market, to actually producing and selling a product. To best empower the self-advocate participants,’ parents will be required to attend concurrent sessions during the 6 week bootcamp. They will have homework and planning worksheets that are designed to be completed together.

Boot camp topics are as follows:

  • Making the Dream a Reality
  • Money, Money, Money
  • Spreading the Word
  • The Final Details

The Bootcamp will be followed by a 2 week ramp-up program.

Then, participants will meet MONTHLY for 9 months to check in regarding their business venture, get feedback, and also get valuable information on soft skills.

Topics including:

  • “Who am I?”- Identifying positive personal traits and producing elevator speeches.
  • “Let me tell you about…”- Interviewing/Talking about your product to others (product knowledge)
  • “Looking the Part”- Dress Code
  • “Addressing the Crowd”- Public Speaking
  • “Planning with a purpose”- Organizational Skills/Planning
  • “Keeping the pace”- Time Management
  • “The technical side of things”- Technology
  • “Going with the Flow”- Flexibility in the workplace
  • “Keep the train rolling”- Inspiring motivation past when the program completes itself
  • Entrepreneur Showcase!
  • “Celebrate good times!”- Use this session for Academy “graduation” and awards ceremony

The 9 month program will conclude with an Entrepreneur Showcase that we will invite elected officials, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and business executives to hear the presentations. The winner will receive an award and we will invite attendees to meet further with participants to consider business investments.

$100 for the whole year including 16 sessions and a mentor. This is availabile through the generosity of our donors that allow a $900 scholarship to this $1,000 program. Additional needs based partial or full scholarships available for the $100 year long program fee. Email info@dsacf.org for additional scholarship information.
