Welcome to the EntireCare Acute Care Update 2017
This year, we have four speakers who will present on various topics of interest for therapists practicing in the Acute Care setting. This conference will also be recorded and will be available on the LMS.
Methodology and Implications for Practice in Administering the Coma Recovery Scale- Revised (CRS-R) – Adam Sakievich, OT
This lecture will explain when the Coma Recovery Scale- Revised (CRS-R) is appropriate to use, and it will describe how to accurately administer and interpret the CRS-R scores. You will learn the implication of the CRS-R for evaluation, goals, and treatment of low functioning brain injured patients, and how CRS-R scores could predict long term prognosis for brain injured patients.
Peripheral Vestibular Evaluation and Treatment - Lisa TenBarge, PT
In this lecture, the speaker will review the anatomy, as it relates to BPPV, vestibular neuritis, Labyrinthitis, Meniere’s disease, and canalith repositioning. The presentation will describe the prevalence of peripheral vertigo, the basic vestibular evaluation components, and treatment options for BPPV in the acute setting. The participants will understand how to perform basic vestibular evaluations and will be able to perform canalith repositioning for patients with BPPV.
Heart Failure: Pathophysiology and its impact on other organ systems, implications for Therapists – Dan Saftoiu, PT
This presentation will provide an overview of heart failure (HF) mechanisms and its impact on other organ-systems. The participant will learn about specific diagnostic studies, including laboratory and imaging studies, as well as the clinical presentation, signs and symptoms, and evaluation methods for patients with HF. The difference between acute and chronic HF will also be described.
EKG rhythms and their implications for therapeutic interventions - Rebecca Ashcraft, PT
This presentation will provide an understanding of EKG rhythms and their implications to therapeutic interventions. It will review the cardiac anatomy and physiology with emphasis on the electrical conduction system, EKG strip layout and components. The normal vs abnormal cardiac rhythms, and appropriateness of initiating or advancing therapeutic activity based on rhythms will be discussed.
