Hi, this is Vanessa, your ENLIGHTENMENT salon host.

As more children become the caretakers of their aging elderly parents (I’m almost at that phase), there’s good news for both those groups in the shape of new state-of-the-art health technology being developed right now at UC Davis Health .The goal: help more seniors live at home alone, longer and happily.

Dr. Alyssa Weakley is a neuropsychologist at UC Davis, studying dementia. She is also a granddaughter trying to care for her grandmother in Southern California, who was diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's.

Weakley wasn’t finding solutions that would help her grandmother age in place, so she created her own. One of them is the Interactive Care Platform, or I-Care, to connect older adults with cognitive impairment to their family members living elsewhere for help in completing important daily activities.

Join me for a talk with Weakley about her research to help people age in place gracefully, and maintain as much of their independence for as long as possible, through the use of technology.

Please bring your questions — nothing is too dumb or too small to ask.
