Description

9-10am Presentation

10-11:30am Workshop

This is the morning session of the LGBT Healthcare Summit sponsored by Humana.

This training will review best practices to engage and retain LGBT clients in substance use disorder (SUD) care. While the core approach to addiction treatment does not change based on an individual's sexual orientation and gender identity, there are key opportunities to signal openness to current and prospective clients, employ client-centered approaches to SUD care, and build alliances with LGBT community organizations. This session will begin with a one-hour lecture to provide an overview of the topic and examples from the field. The second part of the workshop will be an interactive discussion with fellow professionals and Dr. Hurley to develop at least three strategies your organization could take to better serve LGBT clients.
