Friends Who Are Going
Event description

We've got two speakers coming from opposite ends of the spectrum, both dedicated to innovative approaches to hacking performance and wellbeing. David Lowenfels is an MIT/Stanford hacker who has innovated a new approach to Heartrate Variablity (HRV) Feedback, and Dr. Gordon Greene - a Zen Priest, and med school professor - who will be presenting his vision for the upgrading of ancient zen practice with modern tech.

David Lowenfels, founder of Pranawave, holds degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Music from MIT and Stanford. With 20 years of experience in the healing arts, David now spends his time creating wellness products that combine his passions for technology and healing.

David will speak on “Hacking the HRV Circuit for Mind-Body Resilience” and demo his Pranawave Biofeedback which trains a state of focused calm and flow through resonance breathing. HRV is a biomarker for stress, wellness and disease. >20 years of clinical research shows that HRV-BF can benefit depression, anxiety, PTSD, cardiac problems, hypertension, and a myriad of other polyvagal pathologies.

Gordon Greene, PhD., clinical professor of family medicine at University of Wisconsin and head priest at Spring Green Zen Dojo, and night chaplain at Mereter Hospital, finds delight in working with a chain saw in the woods, teaching Rhodes Scholars at Oxford University, presenting grand rounds at Harvard Medical School, and teaching pre-med students at Williams College to face suffering.

Gordon will lead us in a very unique exploration of how this ancient practice might evolve through a merging or augmenting with modern technology. He wont' be presenting any answers or novel technogies, but rather the perspective from teh Zen side of where the entry points would be for innovation. This is a special opportunity, as we don't hear many traditional practitioners open minded and eager to see their contemplative traditions taken through another iteration.
