Engaging the Board of Directors

Nonprofit organizations and their boards are in a continual process of evolution and change. The organization and the Board of Directors should periodically examine whether the work and practices of the Board are aligned with current organizational needs.

Too often the Board of Directors is viewed as necessary to satisfy legal requirements and external expectations but seems, at times, to be more trouble than it is worth. This workshop will focus on practical strategies to engage board members as effective partners and valuable contributors to the achievement of the organization’s mission.

There will be particular focus on the distinction between the management responsibility and authority of the Executive Director and the fiduciary responsibilities and authority of the Board.
