Description

Engaging in Teaching Awards as CPD – Aligning with the National Professional Development Framework for all those who teach in Higher Education

Dr Maura O'Regan

This workshop will explore the role of portfolio development as requirements of teaching award submissions as an avenue to capture evidence of teaching practice in light of the recently developed professional development framework (PDF). Participants will work to map and align CPD activities to the PDF using their portfolio to evidence these activities in a structured manner. Participants will then be encouraged to work in inter-disciplinary and cross-institutional partnerships to develop their teaching portfolios in a supportive climate with a view to establishing an informal network to engage with the CPD framework in relation to teaching activities and opportunities for development.

The learning outcomes for the workshop include:

1. Explore the role of teaching awards as a means of evidencing teaching practice

2. Map the various teaching CPD activities evidenced in portfolios to the professional development framework

3. Participants apply their engagement in CPD in light of the professional development framework and identify opportunities for further engagement and development.

4. Develop partnerships (either institutional or cross-institutional) with a view to peer reviewing of portfolios throughout the development phase.
